Introduction

The North West Nomads is a NSW Chapter of the CMCA (Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia)

The CMCA was formed in April 1986 and today has a membership which exceeds 47,500 members and more than 25,000 motorhomes, campervans and 5th wheelers.

At present there 83 chapters of the club and a number of Special Interest Groups which include the Off-Roaders Network, Radio Network, Solos Network, and the Big Rigs Clan.

Chapters meet on a regular basis where members enjoy the Great Outdoors of Australia and all the Chapters get together for an annual rally. In October 2006 the 20th Annual Rally will be held at Mudgee NSW.

CMCA Rally, Mudgee 2006

Notes on Rally and AGM
1125 campervans/moterhomes attended the rally.
NW Nomads were well represented by Reg and Karen Farrell, Geoff and Kay Gillies, Ron and Aileen Ferguson, Warren and Lila McDonald, with Norm Tame and Wendy Tankard representing us on Chapter Row.

The rally was very successful with great entertainment being a feature. It was hot, dry and dusty but conditions were tempered by long happy hours. Excellent concerts were provided most nights with the highlight probably being the Delltones. Make believe ABBA and Jade Hurley were also great entertainment. Some got involved in sports with one member even hitting the sport pages of the Mudgee Guardian, with a shot of a winning bowl being delivered at the bowls day out at the Mudgee bowlo. (Well done Warren - you are very photogenic)

The seminar program was useful.

Prize for the NW Nomad best dress up for the ball must go to Reg. The theme was Mudgee Magic so you can imagine how one should dress. Perhaps Reg might wear his clobber to the next meeting. Whilst Reg did look the part, I preferred the cat with the long tail.

The CMCA appears to be in good shape with 83 chapters, although growth rate is currently slow. Current membership is in excess of 40000. This growth rate is projected to increase as baby boomers hit the track. Financial status of CMCA appears to be very sound.

The self-containment scheme is growing with 2035 vehicles now registered. Geoff, being an inspector, thought he would make small talk at the self-containment desk early in the rally and found himself with almost a full time job for the remainder - doing inspections. (Reg is now an inspector as well)

The AGM was held on the Sunday morning. You may recall 16 motions were circularized to all members prior to the rally. These motions were submitted by 2 members and took up most of the AGM time.

Support for these motions was poor with all but 2 motions being lost or withdrawn. The first motion carried related to the need for full membership applications to include proof of ownership of a qualifying vehicle. The second motion carried related to the need for members to confirm ownership details as a prerequisite for elections.

All in all we had a great time.
